Because we are able to get a direct view into the back of your retina, this is a rare opportunity to actually look directly at your blood vessels. This can be helpful in detecting diabetes, high blood pressure, and other vascular diseases that can affect not only your eyes, but the rest of your body, as well. Identifying these conditions early is important for your eyes and for your overall health.
Identifying a problem inside the eye and treating it early can be very important for preserving your vision, especially since some conditions, such as glaucoma, do not have any significant visual disturbances that would be noticed by the patient until quite a bit of damage has occurred that likely could have been prevented if it had been treated at an earlier stage.

Dr. Jackson graduated with a Bachelors of Science from Eastern Washington University in 1998,  and became  a Doctor of Optometry from NOVA Southeastern University in 2002. She has been practicing optometry in Wilmington since September of 2003.
