The Great Wilmington Nutcracker at the Wilson Center features the US International Ballet (USIB) led by Italian ballet stars Walter Angelini and Ines Albertini. USIB includes more than 30 professional dancers from five countries. The production also features local youth dancers as well as athletes from the Special Olympics in both the party scene and an intermission showSunday, 3pm. $25.00 to $65.00
Thalian Association Community Theatre presents a production of Elf: The Musical at Thalian Hall in downtown Wilmington, NC.
Panache Productions presents The Santaland Diaries at Cape Fear Playhouse in Wilmington. Written by David Sedaris, the comedy looks at the misadventures of working for Macy’s Santaland as a disgruntled elf. The not politically correct look at the holidays stars Randy Davis as Crumpet, is directed by Jamey Stone, and contains adult language and subject matter.
The Sunday performance is a matinee beginning at 3pm. $20.00 to $22.00
The Theatre Exchange presents an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in the Stein Theatre at Thalian Hall in downtown Wilmington, NC. The show takes the timeless story of Christmas redemption from London to a depression era “Hooverville” on the outskirts of St. Louis. Actor, historian and THCPA Executive Director Tony Rivenbark once again brings Ebenezer Scrooge to theatrical life.
Winter Park Baptist Church in Wilmington presents a A Christmas Music Program featuring a 75-voice choir and community orchestra. Childcare provided for infants through Pre-K.
On stage at Odell Williamson Auditorium in Bolivia, NC, Frosty: On Tour tells the story of a young orphan named Billy who discovers magic in a stolen hat. When he places the hat on a snowman’s head, that snowman comes to life. But can Frosty the Snowman help Billy find his real family in time for Christmas?
The annual Fantasy Christmas Show at Ocean Front Park in Kure Beach, NC, features costumed characters performing song and dance, favorite Christmas tunes sung by an all-local cast, and appearances by Christmas characters like Frosty, Harriet Hippo, the Grinch, Olaf, Anna, Elsa, Rudolph, and of course Santa & Mrs. Claus and their theatrical elves. Bring a chair and dress warmly because it always snows at this show.
Movie Night at Waterman’s Brewing in Wilmington, NC, features an outdoor screening of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The event includes fire pits, hot chocolate, and s’mores. Bring your own chairs and blankets.
Be enchanted by spectacular displays of eight unique model train layouts as they travel across miles of scale track through a wonderland of villages, parks and landscapes. The Cape Fear Festival of Trees at the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher features festive trees decorated by local businesses, various organizations and individual artists, transforming the aquarium space into an enchanted forest.
Airlie Gardens in Wilmington, NC, presents Enchanted Airlie, an opportunity for families to share in the joy of the season with a half-mile self-guided stroll through the gardens featuring festive lights, holiday displays, and Santa Claus, plus local food and beverage vendors with coffee, hot chocolate, popcorn, cookies and more. Tickets must be pre-purchased, and are per carload. Viewing times: 5-7pm and 7-9pm. Carload: $30.00 to $55.00
The Polar Express Holiday Show at the Railroad Museum in downtown Wilmington, NC, features a reading of The Polar Express with a local celebrity, a visit with Santa, and hot chocolate. Shows: 4:30 and 5:30pm. Admission: $5
Poplar Grove Plantation in Wilmington, NC, presents A Merry Little Christmas Festival featuring a European Winter Bazaar experience with arts and craft vendors, a bonfire, lawn games, outdoors screenings of classic movies such as The Polar Express, A Christmas Story, and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. The grounds and barnyard will be decorated with seasonal vignettes and interactive activities for kids, and the manor house will be open for evening candlelit tours ($7).
