South of Wilmington lies the area know as Pleasure Island. Technically, peninsula, Pleasure Island is separated from the mainland by Snows Cut, which is a man-made waterway connecting the Intercoastal Waterway to the Cape Fear River. Pleasure Island consists of Carolina Beach, a popular vacation destination for tourists from all over the country, Kure Beach, which is an upscale are of independent beach homes and high-end rental properties. And then there is Ft. Fisher, which is a park and historic site where you will find the NC Aquarium.
